DeAnna Price Wins First Stop of IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge with World LeadBy Adam Kopet DeAnna Price won the first stop on the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge tour Saturday at the Jamaica International Invitational, according to the IAAF. Price's opening throw would have won the event, but her fourth-round throw of 250-2 (76.27m) set a new world-leading mark this season. She also broke the meet record, previously held by Gwen Berry, who finished second Saturday with a best of 234-0 (71.32m). In addition to leading the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge after its first stop, Price now holds the second-best throw on the American all-time list, in addition to elevating to the No. 19 all-time global performer. Only Berry's American record of 251-10 (76.77m), making her the No. 12 performer in history, is better. |
